Soundcurve Review by WhichVoIP

The Company

Soundcurve, founded in 2009, are headquartered in the Los Angeles area of California. They provide business VoIP phone service to small to medium sized businesses across the United States.

The Good

Soundcurve have four (4) main plans to choose from, called "Startup", "Basic", "Professional", and "Executive". The main differences between each plan is the type of phone included with the plan and the addition of premium features that some businesses may require that others may not. You also have the option of adding specific premium features for an additional fee per month. The pricing per user is solely based on the plan you choose and does not use tiered pricing based on the number of users like some providers implement. Plan pricing is very affordable and the same for any business size which makes it compelling for smaller businesses.

The Startup plan is a great entry level plan for new small businesses getting their feet wet. For $14.99 per user per month you get 500 calling minutes included, a local phone number, their standard 30+ features, and email based support. This plan offers discounted Yealink phones. The Basic plan is a better deal for established small businesses. For $17.99 per user per month you get a Yealink T21 phone as well as unlimited calling in the USA plus Canada, a free local phone number, over 30 standard features, plus email and phone support.

The Professional plan is $24.99 per user per month and includes Yealink T40 IP desk phones which are an upgrade from the T21 model supplied with the Basic plan. The other differences are that you can choose a local or Toll Free number, you get 150 toll free calling minutes, voicemail to text transcription, 1 studio recorded greeting message, and free VIP setup. The Executive plan is $27.99 per user per month and has everything the Professional plan has plus it offers the Yealink T42 IP desk phones in place of the T40 model, CRM integrations, Internet Fax (300 pages per month), text messaging/SMS, call recording, and a studio recorded greeting message per user of the system.

Plan Name Price/User/Mo
Startup $14.99
Basic $17.99
Professional $24.99
Executive $27.99

The standard feature set that comes free with all plans includes auto attendant, ring groups, voicemail to email, mobile Apps, voicemail transcriptions, business hour time conditions, call forwarding, caller ID, call waiting, call transfer, music on hold, call listen, call whisper, call barge, call queue, call parking, do not disturb, custom greetings, a web portal, plus more.

Some premium features can be added for an additional fee per month. Text messaging/SMS can be added for $5.99 per user per month, call recording starts at $9.99 per month, fax starting at $12.99 per month, toll free plans starting at $19.99 per month, studio recorded professional greetings start at $19.99 per greeting, and VIP setup starting at $49.99. It looks like CRM integrations are only included in the Executive plan, no a la carte pricing is listed. Integrations include Salesforce, Zoho, SugarCRM, SuiteCRM, ConnectWise CRM, or you can use their API to integrate with other CRMs. They also offer custom music on hold mixing, if you want to mix in a message to your music on hold. You have to contact them directly to get pricing for this feature. International calling is available at competitive rates.

You can purchase other Yealink IP phones through Soundcurve, such as the T27G for $139.99, the T29G for $189.99, the T42 for $119.99, the T46G for $199.99, and the T48 for $219.99. They also display a Yealink YHS32 headset, a Grandstream HT286 ATA device, and a Yealink W52 DECT cordless phone system.

Their hours are 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday and you can contact them via their toll free numbers (one for support and one for sales) or via email. They do have a support area accessible from their website. It includes some how-to guides and FAQs providing instructions on using the basic system features. You can search the support documentation or submit a ticket for any issues you are having.

The Bad

When you try and signup online for one of their plans it appears to take you to an old signup form where pricing was based on number of users. This is confusing and provides an incorrect pricing based on the plan that was chosen on their website.

The website mentions an array of compatible Mobile Apps for both Android and iOS but we could not find information on which ones were supported and whether they had their own App available. If you like to use a specific mobile App then check with them directly to make sure they support it. Knowing Soundcurve they most likely will add it if they are not already supported.

The voicemail transcriptions feature is mentioned as an additional feature under the Professional plan but it is detailed under the standard free features section. If this is an important feature in your requirements it might be worth clarifying if it is available in the cheaper plans (i.e. the Basic plan).

If you want a different phone than is offered as a free phone for a specific plan it is not clear how much extra it would be to upgrade or even downgrade.

Most, if not all, VoIP providers include a Fair Use Policy related to their unlimited calling plans and excessive use of unlimited plans is prohibited by Soundcurve. Soundcurve states that "Excessive Use" means that your use exceeds the monthly minutes per line used by 98% of all Soundcurve unlimited plan customers.

The Bottom Line

  • Startup plan is $14.99 per user per month and includes 500 calling minutes.
  • Basic plan includes a Yealink T21 phone plus unlimited calling, for $17.99 per user per month.
  • Professional plan upgrades to a Yealink T40 phone plus some additional features, for $24.99 per user per month.
  • Executive plan is $27.99 per user per month and includes a Yealink T42 phone plus all their standard and premium features.
  • Premium features include CRM integrations, call recording, text messaging/SMS, fax, studio recorded greetings, toll free, and VIP setup.
  • Other Yealink phones available through them, including the T27, T29, T46 and T48 models.

Overall Thoughts

Soundcurve provide a very intriguing option, with affordable plans for any busines size. Plan options are based on included IP phone models and premium features. They also offer premium features a la carte. With IP phones included in three of the four plans it makes for a low cost entry for businesses that are cost conscious.

Overall we recommend taking a closer look at Soundcurve if solid phone service with great customer service are your top priority.
