One of the major selling points of their service is the ability to subscribe to Xfinity service without the need for a contract. Customers are billed, and service is provided, on a month-to-month basis.
Discounts, specials and low introductory rates are regularly offered, particularly for new customers. Customers can receive additional discounts and promotions by bundling with other Xfinity services.
All Comcast Internet service comes with Constant Guard, an online security package that includes password protection, identity theft protection and Norton Security Suite software. This service is only compatible with Windows software and not applicable to Macintosh computers.
Customer support is available 24/7 through their website, which also includes a user forum for finding answers to commonly reported problems. Support is also available by calling 1-800-XFINITY or by visiting a local support center.
A 30-day trial period (30 Day Money-Back-Guarantee) is offered with all services, allowing customers to return hardware and cancel service for no additional cost.
If you have bundled Internet and cable television services, you can watch a wide selection of movies and TV shows online, as well as live streams from several channels, through their web portal.
Customers who sign up for higher tiers of service are eligible to utilize 'over 500,000 WiFi hotspots' around the country.
Based on the their annual poll of consumers, Consumerist magazine awarded Comcast the unenviable title of 'Worst Company in America' for 2014.
They have consistently received poor user reviews on WhichVoIP and numerous other review sites. Common complaints include excessive or unexpected fees, poor customer service, slower connection speeds than advertised and inconsistencies in service quality.
An additional $7.95 per month is charged for customers who rent cable modems. This fee can be avoided if customers purchase and use their own modems.
Prices are cheaper than competitors during promotional periods, but may generally be more expensive afterwards. Higher tiered speed levels accordingly cost much more than lower tiers, with prices topping $100 per month.
Comcast has been called out in media for abusing their monopoly on cable service. They have been accused of offering slower speeds and higher pricing in areas where they are the only provider.
Be aware that data usage plans are currently being trialed and rolled out in some areas. So if you go over a specific data allocation during any month you may be subject to additonal charges.

Note that if you believe there are problems with your service, first check the Comcast Xfinity Internet network status by visiting this page.
Comcast is often the fastest available service for many US regions. Sometimes it is the only available cable option. Their prices and service often reflect this monopoly, which results in high costs for service after promotional periods and less than optimal customer service. Being labeled the 'Worst Company in America' is largely based on customer opinions of the company and is reflected in the user reviews submitted through WhichVoIP.
Internet service can be a good value option when bundled with either Xfinity Voice (VoIP) or Xfinity cable TV. Access to online media and integration between services serve as additional benefits when service bundling. As a service, they claim to offer the best speed, support and pricing in the industry, however, it does not often meet these claims. They can offer faster speeds than competitors, but prepare to pay a high rate (after introductory pricing expires) for a less than consistent service. As always we recommend researching other cable providers in your region, for pricing and reviews to see if they may be a better fit than Comcast.
