We had a horrible experience with HughesNet. I would not recommend them to anyone. We live in a rural area with no options for high-speed Internet. HughesNet promised much faster speed and a very competitive price. However, the speed was not what was promised! Also, when we ordered the service, and when the technician came out to install, they did NOT tell us that their satellite service was NOT compatible with our home security system which left us with NO remote access to monitor our home video surveillance cameras. After trying to deal with the service for a couple of months, we decided it would not work for us. When we called to complain and ultimately cancel service, the customer service department was not at all accommodating. Though we asked very politely if they would be flexible as to a penalty charge to cancel coverage, since service was not what was promised, they would not do so. Very dissatisfied with the entire experience. Horrible!

Setup wasn't bad because DTV contracted to them in my area. Service setup by local contract did OK. The rest is the worse service I have every had. When I call customer service, their comment is because I have used up my bandwidth, that is the same day I pay my bill and it never changes. This company is a waste of money and I am counting down the days that my contract ends. I will never do any business with this company ever again and I plan to give a negative review to all my friends and anyone who asks.

Satellite Internet and tv is most amazing technology that enables us to live completely off the grid in the mountains with normal communication and media at a very low price considering the cost of the system. They have improved performance over the years and any limitations of bandwidth and speed is a minor issue when there is no alternative. We have had Hughesnet and Dish for 16 years with only occasional equipment problems but the company has always been reliable replacing and repairing system as needed. Thank you!

This is absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. The absolute worst phone and Internet service I have ever experienced. The icing on the cake is the absolute worst customer service you could ever even try to imagine in both billing and technical support. When you have only one phone and no cell service and the calls drop and you want support they wont call you back so you have to call 8 times and get someone different who knows NOTHING except to read a script.

It says constant, fast, and reliable connection but little does it let you know it has a 10 gigabyte usage. Basically what happened to me was I read on their website constant fast reliable internet, with the key word being CONSTANT! I don't recommend this network to anyone. Please take this review seriously or you could be stuck with a really crappy network for however long your contract is.

SB was right about this company controlling most web pages out there, they would have 5 stars (voted themselves because no human would do that). I trusted their sales person, their reviews website and now stuck with bad service for 2 years. Beware of this company, find a reviews website, like this one, with real people reviews when you want to get anything!

We just recently were able to have satellite in our area due to living in the mountains. I was hesitant to order service but out of desperate measures ordered. Service installer was kind, courteous and professional. Our Wi-Fi connection was slow at first but that was due to the router we were using. Always spend a little more money and get a good router, you won't be disappointed. We have four smart phones, one tablet, one laptop and Netflix connected without a hitch.

I just had the system installed and I will be kicking myself in the butt for the next two years because I made assumptions I never should have, like believing what the salesperson told me. The term "sales person" should have been the first clue but he sounded okay. He told me about the gigabytes of data I could expect and how the number 60 would be more than I would ever need. Later, after I had signed the deal, I find out that a good deal of that data must be used or downloaded between 2 AM and 8 AM. That assumes (that nasty word again) that I have a DVR or some other recording device. I went online to get more detail but HughesNet seems to have control of most of the web pages I could find until I found review sites not controlled by HughesNet. And I thought Comcast was bad for not being willing to provide me with a lesser plan unless I signed up for 24 months. I thought that would be a cold day in he$%. But now I will be doing just that, waiting out my sentence. Fortunately I have a T-Mobile Hot Spot with which I can access the Internet from anywhere in the house, and can take it everywhere. Ten devices can share the access, the only requrement being within the range of a telephone signal. I will happily revisit this review if my experience is better than I fear, much of which I learned on this review website.

This is the worst company that I have ever dealt with in my life. I told them to take their junk off of my house. I would go without before I would use this company again. Mad as hell.

I've read all the comments listed here and back in the time frame of these comments, yes hughesnet was not a good service. I've been a Hughes customer since 2005. First modem was HN7000S. Had one failure of the modem and they replaced it since I bought the entire system. Other than the ups & downs of satellite communications, I got was I paid for. My monthly cost was $69.99. I recently (as of April) upgraded to the new Gen4 system. This I rented even though the cost was only $150 to upgrade, I opted to lease. My cost now including the speed which is the Pro and lease rate is $91.77. The new Gen4 satellite is fast. Now something everyone may not know, Hughes was bought by Dish. Dishnet is really Hughesnet under another name. Excede put up a new satellite and Hughes went to the same manufacture and had an exact satellite built for them and named it Gen4. They are now offering VOIP also. I haven't tried it yet, still reading up on this. If I go to the Hughes offering I'll update the review. What most people don't understand is that the signal needs to go 22,000 miles up and then down again to the ops center, with a return back to your pc the same way. That takes time, you can't beat the laws of physics. The only thing I can say is if you want faster, move closer to town where DSL and Cable is offered. Now there tech support leaves a whole lot to deal with. Yes there just a bunch of script readers. Having been in the communications end for 30 plus years, I just tell them to close the book and listen to what I say and then connect me with level 3 support. Sometimes you will get a person who knows his/her stuff but rarely. IMHO all call centers should be brought back to the USA. Enough said.
