iPlum was founded in 2015 and is based in Silicon Valley, California. It provides phone service to small businesses and entrepreneurs in the United States and Canada that are looking for a simple cell phone App as a way to manage their business communications.
No deskphones are needed, everything is done on your cell phone. Simply download the iPlum App from the Apple or Google store and in seconds you can be handling your business calls and texts. This makes it easy to separate your personal and business calls, use your native cell phone for all of your personal calls and the iPlum App for business calls. You can also configure distinct ringtones and voicemail in the App to further distinguish your personal and business life.
One of the major advantages to iPlum is that it can use a special voice network mode for your business calls and use your business caller ID. In other words even though it is an App, your business calls can go out over the voice network rather than using up data. This is unusual for Apps such as this and is very intriguing as it would likely result in higher carrier class reliability, though just standard definition audio quality. You can also switch to data mode and use WiFi/3G/4G/LTE for your calls which could result in improved audio quality when you have strong signal strength, by using higher definition audio codecs. In other words, the App can switch between voice and data mode for your audio calls.
The iPlum plans are priced aggressively versus similar virtual phone service Apps. An unlimited phone or fax line costs just $11.99 per month or $7.99 per month for an annual plan. A measured plan is available for just $4.99 per month (200 minutes per month) or $4.17 per month for an annual plan (2000 minutes per year). Toll free plans are more expensive, the unlimited plan costs $19.99 per month or $14.99 per month for an annual plan. Toll free measured plans cost $4.99 per month (number only) or $9.99 per month (400 minutes per month). You can top up minutes/credits as needed, $20 for 2000 credits, equating to 1c/minute for calls and faxes. No additional taxes are added to these costs, making this one of the lowest cost options we have seen for a business second line type plan.
iPlum may be very useful for those in the healthcare industry since it offers full HITECH security and HIPAA compliance for calls, texts, voicemail messages and fax.
Over 50 features available including auto attendants, time conditions (after hours go to voicemail), auto-reply texts for missed calls or texts, voicemail transcription, call recording for $4.99 per month (with call consent messages for those States that need it), call blocking, address books, call forwarding, multiple inbound paths and many more.
Numbers can be ported to iPlum free of charge. This process takes 7 to 10 days, assuming you have provided all of the correct information.
You can set up a central account to add additional phone lines and users. This is very useful for centralized billing and also to manage users and configure them as extensions for the purpose of auto attendant routing.
iPlum has compiled a good number of articles and guides to help you take full advantage of the feature set that is offered. For additional support you can submit a ticket on the iPlum Website.
There is no desk phone support, the iPlum system is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) system that relies on the iPlum smartphone App.
No phone number is provided for support. If the guides do not help you need to submit a ticket online for additional support.
For the unlimited plans, it covers your calls up to the first 2500 credits per month (i.e. 2500 minutes). They recommend an overlay scheme where you can add $20 worth of credits (2000 credits i.e. minutes) that kicks in if your volume is high in a given month and goes over the 2500 limit. This seems reasonable but is worth pointing out, in other words it is not truly unlimited.
iPlum is a great option for smaller businesses that want to use their cell phone for business calls and texts. One device can be used for all personal and business communications, the iPlum App is used for the business side. The pricing is extremely competitive and iPlum offers a nice feature set that would meet the needs of most small companies.
