MegaPath originally formed in 1996 during the early days of VoIP before Internet telephony became a staple for business. The company's intentions have been much the same since the earliest incarnation of the organization: providing top-class technology for business consumers with voice, data and security services. Since founding, the company has undergone several evolutions to offer one of the highest-class business communication services focused on security in the US.
MegaPath mostly caters to larger businesses, especially those with multiple office locations but is flexible enough to support a broad range of businesses, including the SMB market. Their network is based on MPLS standards that modify how network traffic moves between end-points for optimal data transfer speeds. All services are built with security in mind that greatly benefits various clientele served by their network.
Of the many services offered, high-speed business Internet is a main component and available via several different connective technologies, all brandishing a variety of service capabilities and features. Arguably, the best services are found in the data-based Ethernet offerings that allow the consumer to choose between symmetrical download and upload speeds or set individual limits up to a total of 135Mbps. The connection is highly redundant with failover resolution that allows a business to stay connected in the event of one or more failures.
Other Internet services offered include EoDS1 - an ideal solution for company WANs as transfer speeds are not affected by the distance between most locations. A business may also choose from various other connection types such as T1, T3, DSL, managed WiFi and others - services can further be combined for certain scenarios.
Voice services offered come in several varieties but most impressively are low cost SIP Trunks offered for businesses with existing IP PBX systems. Prices change with various promotional offers but may go as low as $9.95 per trunk when bundled with data services. For companies without the means to support an in-house communication system, hosted voice and UC is available as well. The system offers several prominent features of business VoIP systems like voicemail transcription, CRM integration, call forwarding and many others. A secure online web portal easily manages all voice solutions.
The hosted Voice plans include a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a no minimum seat requirement. Customer support is 24/7/365 and is provided no matter the number of lines you have for your business. Unlimited local and nationwide (the lower 48 states plus Canada) calling is included in each plan as well as a 50+ feature pack. Low international rates are available with global calling included in their Enterprise plans. Free user and administrator training (live sessions and on demand) are included so you can get the most out of your new phone system.
Business network services available include a realm of hosted options that extend beyond voice. Highly redundant, cloud hosting options are available for infrastructure to supplement existing business infrastructure or as a complete solution for a total business network environment. Certain SaaS options are available as well that includes hosted options for Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint as well as a full DRaaS option supplemented by their partners at Mozy.
At WhichVoIP.com we attempt to uncover "closet skeletons" that companies often try to hide and further point out shortcomings in plain view. MegaPath, however, has very few marks on their record for any kind of major performance issues, although the few encountered problems have a common theme.
Around the time MegaPath acquired certain companies (i.e. Speakeasy and Covad) some issues affecting service uptime and certain customer service issues surfaced. Apparently because of bad communication, certain matters went unattended for a time that exceeded some customer's SLAs. Other issues denoted by various resources seem to indicate that when certain reps, managers or techs leave the company, the line of communication may not handoff to another associate in the most accurate manner.
MegaPath has one of the most broad service offerings in the North American market as their capacity extends far beyond communications. Though VoIP is major focus of the company, various other services from cloud hosting to data services make them a very powerful resource for business technology. Honestly, the company is so dynamic that it is difficult to cover every single aspect of the services they provide.
Though a handful of complaints are visibly in contention of the company's great service record, the issues are mostly isolated and quite rare considering their large base of clientele. Businesses seeking a comprehensive network solution that includes everything from data, infrastructure and a complete VoIP solution should take a closer look.
