OnSIP is a UCaaS (Unified Communications as a Service) platform and VoIP service provider for businesses. It is a popular and feature-laden phone service that is trusted by over 100,000 accounts, some of which are well known brands such as Ars Technica, SpaceX, iHeart Media and Cloudera.
While some VoIP providers offer metered plans that are a fixed monthly rate plus a per minute fee, OnSIP takes a different approach by offering a Pay As You Go plan that does not charge a per user fee. This plan has a monthly minimum fee that covers the cost for a set of popular business phone features. You then pay for your phone calls on a per minute basis — a very affordable option for businesses looking to keep their phone costs down. Alternatively, OnSIP also has an unlimited plan for $18.95/user/month with no contract required that offers unlimited standard area calling, video conferencing, plus unlimited phone system features.
OnSIP partners with a third party store, VoIP Supply, and directs new customers there should they need to purchase phones. OnSIP also has a list of recommended phone models that work well with its VoIP service. However, you may keep any existing phones that you have, assuming they follow the SIP standard.
An admin portal is provided and allows the user to set up and configure all their phone system features of which there are plenty. The basics include auto-attendant, voicemail (and voicemail-to-email), dial by name directory, HD music on hold, business hour rules, ring queues, and the standard set of call management features. Other features include Zendesk and Hubspot integrations, simultaneous ring, free SIP domain hosting, and find me anywhere.
Other cool solutions/features for the business user include voice/video chat for your website, a free desktop softphone app (with voice/video calling, video conferencing, IM, presence, and voicemail management), a free mobile App (iOS and Android and 3rd party App support), CRM integrations (Hubspot, Zendesk and Highrise), and APIs for developers.
A free 30-day trial is available. This is always a good sign as it shows they stand behind their service and allow you to try it out before making any major phone service switch for your business.
Even though they have a Pay As You Go plan that is $0/user/month there is a minimum charge of $49.95/month (which includes voicemail and auto attendant features). This makes the plan more viable for businesses with at least 5 employees or more. OnSIP does offer a more traditional unlimited plan at a competitive price of $18.95/user/month with no contract required that would likely be attractive to most companies, but again there is a 5 user minimum requirement.
Any pre-paid credits expire 90 days from the date they are added to your account, although this is not enforced for active accounts. A US-based credit card must be provided though this is not required until after your trial period has completed.
OnSIP provides an interesting choice for businesses that have 5+ employees and lower phone usage. On the Pay As You Go Plan, you pay for the amount of minutes used so expect monthly bills to vary but the plan options are very simple and flexible. Outside of the many features that come reasonably standard these days with VoIP technology, they also have some neat solutions like instant web calling (utilizing WebRTC standards) and softphone apps that make your smartphones, computers, laptops, and tablets act like desk phones (iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows devices).
