The technical support is sketchy. Some are good, and some are anxious to get off the phone. Overall, the system is feature rich, but the support folks are not as knowledgeable as they should be.
VISITOR/PROVIDER FEEDBACK:
Comment by Desiree at RINGCENTRAL: I am really sorry our support has been so inconsistent. I am going to pass your feedback to our support leaders. Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming - we really want to make positive changes and make sure experiences consistently good!

The rep was very professional, knowledgeable and helped setup the system to the way I wanted. I was especially impressed with him following up when he promised. More implementation folks should be like him!

Have been a happy customer for about 6 months now. A great phone company offering great features for our business. We got 8 phones, and RingCentral's implementation advisors have made the transition into VoIP so smooth.
VISITOR/PROVIDER FEEDBACK:
-> RINGCENTRAL Response: Sweet - glad your transition was easy and you are up and running!

I've been a customer since early 2010. The service has crashed at least four times in 2010-11 and twice in 2012 for periods ranging from 4-8 hours. There may have been more crashes, I'm only aware when they happen in the middle of a work day. These crashes usually affect inbound calls. During a system crash, customer service is unreachable, their support website has a traffic signal cheerily displaying a "green light", and there's no email notification that the system is malfunctioning, or that the malfunction is resolved, or any follow up about the source of the malfunction and planned steps to prevent future malfunctions. Apart from the half dozen forced office closures, "the play was good Mrs. Lincoln." In other words, ignoring six out of 1000+ days and the service is pretty good, reasonably priced, and not without some problems. For example, the phones are locked which means, among other things one must enter an address book manually. Yes, in a time when my contact list is sync'd to my exercise bicycle my office phone requires I type hundreds of contacts using the old "press the number 7 four times for an S technique." I called support and they agreed it was abjectly stupid. The phones have trouble maintaining registration through my sonincwall, so every few hours they become unreachable until an outbound call forces a registration refresh. I have had sonicwall support monitor the system and my other SIP devices have no trouble. I call ringcentral support and asked to speak to a sonicwall expert. This person wouldn't give me the configuration instructions and instead insisted on setting up a shared session in which he edited my sonicwall device while I observed. I made a copy of the firmware and settings and watched this person spend 30 minutes utterly screwing up my firewall. Fortunately, it took less than 30 second to wipe and restore the old settings, - total loss, 30 minutes and 30 seconds worth of my life. After exhausting that avenue I relented and decided to put the ringcentral SIP phones outside my firewall-- Oh wait they're programmed to receive an IP via DHCP and that can't be changed by anyone, apparently. I have a business connection, there's no DHCP on the main switch. Still, I've limped along, everything else essentially works, I make an outgoing call when I arrive in the morning, and one at lunch, and that seems to treat the registration issue. Frankly the thought of the time-cost with switching services seems to large to bear. Until this past week. I learned through an update to the ringcentral iphone app that SMS messaging is now available. Back in 2010, SMS messaging was listed as an available feature but after a few weeks of support pass around, I was told it was "coming soon". Soon the web site changed SMS messaging to coming soon. Then, a year later it disappeared altogether. So no it's back SMS messaging. Only You can't have SMS messaging on a Ringcentral Mobile Plan, but you can upgrade, for the twice the cost, to a Ringcentral Office plan for SMS. The logic here escapes me. A plan designed for mobile users, who use their mobiles, but who won't have access to SMS-- not even as an additional cost option. But wait, there's more. I switch to the ringcentral office plan and only then learn, "SMS is still in beta and only available to new customers." Seriously?

The customer service represents have incomplete information. The computer does not accurately record all incoming communication attempts depending on the fax being is an analog machine. We get lots of "partial" faxes that have nothing; we have some senders whose faxes cannot ever get through; we have some entities whose faxes indicate "No Answer." This is not a way to run a professional office. If you cannot tolerate missed faxes, then don't use Ring Central. It is part of the platform incompatiblity issues.

As an IT consultant, I was really hesitant to move my client's service to a hosted system after they told me to look into it. I heard a few buzz around RingCentral and decided to call them. After speaking to their sales rep and also with their sales engineer, I decided to do a test. At the 7th day, we decided to move all the phones to RingCentral. The system a reliable (great disaster recovery system), very affordable and the functionality is mind-blowing. I was able to get info updated on the fly unlike the old system. I am now working a few other clients of mine to their service. I would recommend you consult their experience sales team and engineers if you're seriously looking to upgrade your phone system.

We have been with them for over 4 months now and love their service. Call quality and features are exceptional. As a company, we are saving a bundle compared to what we were paying to our old provider. I definitely recommend them as solution if you're looking to update your phone system.
