If you are thinking of going with ViaTalk's $199 per year plan, there is something you need to know. it is really $229 a year not $199. As well as automatically being billed $199 each year you will be automatically billed $2.50 for "mandatory" E-911 & Regulatory fees. My experience with the quality of service over the last year was fair at best. Clarity on my end was good but the people I was talking to often complained of echo's, static or dropouts. For the cost I was willing to put up with having to redial calls several times as the numbers would not always go through correctly. I also had to hang up and dial back into calls as periodically people could no longer hear me at all. I was "auto renewed" for another year in June. I decided to cancel the renewal as it just was not worth it. Canceling was another big surprise... Read the fine print! If you cancel, you are hit with $100 cancellation fee, $50 for the "free" adapter, plus what ever number of months you have already used. They will refund the $50 for the adapter provided you send it back with all the paperwork, the original box, network cable, etc. Anything missing you get charged for. My advice, find another VoIP provider and avoid ViaTalk.

I first had Vonage and I was unhappy with their service. I was unable to receive calls. I researched Viatalk and found that they were one of the top rated Voip services. I signed up with Viatalk and received my equipment in 5 days. It is excellent value for money. I don't think anyone can beat that. I initially had problems receiving calls and the calls would go to a recording. I called Viatalk and they were able to fix the problem within 24 hours. Viatalk told me that they were upgrading their phone lines and some of the old lines did not transfer over. Customer service was very helpful, and I could understand them, unlike Vonage who has customer support in another country. I would recommend Viatalk to everyone and their service is excellent.

After reading the first 7 reviews of via-talk, I was compelled to enter my very positive comments about this service. I am very happy with the service. I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary and have had virtually NO problems. Of course, initially, there were many questions that I got answered very quickly. I believe that I was completely self sufficient, no need for service, after the first 4 weeks. Give it a chance, once operational it works GREAT! One negative is that they keep coming out with really good deals and won't let me sign up. I paid my $9.95 PER month for 2 years 500 minutes and now they are offering two years unlimited for $199. I asked twice to extend my contract with this rate but they won't budge. I am afraid that when my contract is up they won't offer this really good deal. I guess time will tell. Don't hesitate, however give it time.

This was my third try at VoIP. I had Vonage and the phone quality was fine, but the customer service and features were awful. I switched to Earthlink's service. This was a huge mistake. It was far worse than I could've imagined. DO NOT EVER USE EARTHLINK!! I lost money switching to Viatalk, but I could not take the bad service any longer. The only thing I have great to say about Viatalk is the great array of features in the control panel. You can really do a lot with your phones system and it works well with a soft phone too. I have a fantastically fast ISP at home. I actually purchased Roadrunner Business class and get 7MB down and 1MB up. My only real complaints stem from every call I make it takes about 10 seconds to begin ringing and frequently we get ghosting (or echoes in call). The delay gets worse when my wife calls her family in Canada. So the lag really sucks because you begin to say something and the other person starts talking so you have to start your conversation over again. If Viatalk had better service, I would most likely stay with them, but as it is, my 1 yr is up next month and I'm shopping here to hopefully gain some education on VoIP and obtain a better service. My suggestion on Viatalk is to skip it until future ratings of their Quality of Service rates higher.

This is a follow up review...I have had ViaTalk for 2 months and I can say I have found no problems with the service. All features work and sound quality is a good as it gets. As I have stated in my previous review this is my 3rd VoIP service and I have been nothing but thrilled with my savings and the quality of the service I have received. Why would anyone not use VoIP is a mystery to me.

SUNROCKET SUCKS. DONT BUY SUNROCKET. SUE SUNROCKET. DOWN WITH SUNROCKET...Here is the deal. They SUCK. I called the CEO, I called the VP of customer support. I sent endless amounts of emails, just trying to get the service to work. THE ONLY RESPONSE I EVER GOT was when my 1yr CONTRACT was up. Then they tried to ask me to sign up again. When I told them I tried to cancel my service 9 months ago when it : a. ) STOPPED WORKING b. ) NO ONE COULD FIX c. ) NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. She said "well that's a unique instance. Most of our customers don't have any problems like this." Yeah right. LOOK AT THE MESSAGE BOARDS YOU IGNORANT HUMAN or maybe your just LYING. I'M NOT SURE WHICH IS WORSE. TO all TAKE MY ADVICE DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT buy this service. I'm at VIATALK now...they ROCK....BTW I'm in high tech and this post can NOT be mistaken for a non savvy tech/end user. I work in IT and am a networking IP professional....AGAIN THEY SUCK, capital SUCK......NO IFs ANDs or BUTs..... well maybe BUTTs.... you catch my drift.... THEY ARE HORRIBLE...

ViaTalk has very inconsistent service. They lack a knowledgeable support staff, and they have poor customer service. If I had it to do over, I would choose SunRocket. I went with ViaTalk for the free year, but it was not worth it.

I've had ViaTalk for about a week. I am going back to Verizon and will gladly pay the additional monthly fee (above what ViaTalk costs). Since I've had the service I've been plagued with: - bad sound quality - situations where people can't hear me - DirecTV receivers can't connect - takes a long time from the last button pressed to when it starts to ring - "stuttering" calls. I've gone on their forums to try various fixes, all to no avail. (Putting my device in a DMZ, etc...) Getting phone service should not be this much work. I should just plug in the device and off I go. The features of ViaTalk are great. The service on the other hand....ehhh. Their brutal cancellation fee of 50% sucks. (50% of $200 for only a week of service) This cancellation fee tells me that they aren't too confident in their service. I think a pro-rated refund minus some minimal (say $20) cancellation fee would be more appropriate.
