Decent solution but not the cheapest

This is a decent service and I am fairly happy with what I am getting for the money. It was a big cost savings over my previous land-line although I liked it better when I was only paying the $9.99 introductory rate. $24.99 for VoIP service is a bit steep but if you do a lot of calling (especially international calling) it can still work out as a decent deal. I recommend that people considering the service read the fine print though as Vonage does have a "reasonable use" clause in the policy which states something about keeping your "unlimited" international calling under 3000 minutes a month. This seems pretty reasonable to me as you are taking advantage if you are calling more than that in a month to a foreign country, and you might be better off with a service like Rebtel. Although I am somewhat happy with the service and do recommend it, I am not certain if I will stay much after my term is up as there are just so many cheaper alternatives and I don't want to be one paying for all that advertising that they do. Thankfully I have not had to deal with customer service after reading some of the other reviews for Vonage here.

Save your time and money - customer service can't fix any problems and will make you stay on the phone with them for hours. We received frequent calls from "anonymous" callers and numbers like 0000123456 in the middle of the night, with no one on the other line. Vonage claimed not to have a record of these and couldn't fix the problem. Calls would not go through to specific numbers which changed over time. Vonage "lost" our report of the problem. They are trying to charge me a $100+ cancellation fee despite the fact that they cannot fix their own problems.

I was harassed by Vonage for using more than 3000 minutes in one month after being their customer for 3 years. The plan says 60 countries with unlimited calling to landlines included. More than 10 countries and territories with unlimited? calling to mobile phones - even India.?, but customer care department will harass customers if usage exceeds 3000 minutes.

A taxable monthly junk fee to protect their copyright? No refunds of unused service when account cancelled after 5 years? Good-bye Vonage. You suck

I have read mixed reviews negatives and positives about Vonage and decided to give it a try. I have four business locations that each have between 1 and 3 Vonage VOIP lines in which I use Vonage. PROS Vonage works well with my existing telephone equipment like Comdail. In addition the features are unbeatable and having access to make the changes you want is a huge plus. I really like the fact that I am saving money. At one of my locations my INTERNET and PHONE bill was costing me $290.00 per month. Now I'm getting my Uverse Internet for $43 and 2 unlimited lines at $24.99 totaling $92.98. Savings at this location per month $197.02. In another location I was spending $85.00 for one business line. Now with Vonage I'm only spending $24.99. Saving me $60.01 per month. At my other two locations I'm saving about $60.00 per month each. MY TOTAL SAVINGS USING VONAGE $4,524.24 per year. That is enough reason for me to make a switch. Just make sure you have at least 10.0MB and up internet/dsl/uverse. I don't make any calls internationally so I cannot say how good vonage services are for international calls but for domestic calls within the US I can say that I am very pleased. Customer Service is great. I have gotten real people on the phone every time I contact them instead of talking to a machine.

Their fair usage is unfair! As a residential phone we use expect to use it for more than 1-2 hours each day in a house of 5. Only being available for 3000 minutes a month is not enough at all.

VONAGE is the WORSE VoIP service I've ever had and I've had three over seven (7) yrs. The BEST service I've ever had was AT&T's CallVantage; that service was AMAZING! I wept like a baby when they went out of business. The service was FLAWLESS! The bar was set pretty high by the time I got to Vonage. Went to Vonage because they had a country that I called FREQUENTLY as one of their FREE to call countries. From the moment I signed up, it has been one NIGHTMARE after another; HELLICIOUS! This company should be out of business. It has FAILED miserably. WHY? Becaues of the following: 1.) Call-Waiting service NEVER worked in 2 yrs.. 2.) They make you sign a contract. If it were NOT for the fact that I was under a Contract, I would have left after two (2) months. If a company is good, why would they insist on Contracts? Quality companies do NOT REQUIRE Contracts because who would switch if it all works well? 3.) Their advertising is very good and they do NOT deliver as committed. 4.) Calls to Europe were NOT terminating successfully 5.) They routed my calls to dead-end ports. For example, if I were calling numbers... it would say the numbers were either non-working or disconnected. This went on for six weeks before they got that problem resolved. 6.) They tried to cheat me by removing countries that would be for FREE, mainly the country that brought me to them in the first place and not inform me while still charging me Premium Rates! ABHORENT! 7.) Now, 12.19.11, I'm still without dial tone! Yep have been without dial tone now 14 days. How is that for INCOMPREHENSIBLE poor service? How does Vonage stay in business? Forced contracts! Get this, they only offered me $10.00 off this bill even though I do NOT have any dial tone. 8.) Vonage charges U$25.00 in taxes and fees. Why should some Internet phone company charge $25.00 in taxes and sundry fees? Doesn't that sound like theft? Because I was locked into their contract I had to eat crow until the agreement had expired and then those hustlers had the nerve to send me Emails in the attempt to get me to sign up for another year. Talk about big balls! Can you imagine? The company from hell was trying to get me to sign on for an extended HORROR SHOW. Oh my God! In all fairness, Vonage had given me some credits; not enough considering the DESPICABLE experience I've had for two (2) yrs.; absolutely not! Not anyone should be forced to stay in any contract with all the problems that plagued my account since its inception. Hope this REVIEW helps. Do NOT recommend Vonage at all; even if the service were FREE! Too many technological persist problems for too much money. How do they stay in business? Because fools like me get caught in their tangled web. Luckily, I survived to live another day.

I have had Comcast VOIP for 2 years. Never had any problems, but it was costing me over $50/month. In addition to the monthly charge I would get a $7/mo fee for some lease. Anyway, decided to try Vonage. I ordered the equipment this weekend and it arrived Tuesday and I had it up and running by 6pm (about an hour). I wired it so that it utilizes my existing phone jacks (I have cordless phones, a fax and the Dishnetwork phone connection). So far, so good. I cannot tell any difference from the Comcast service, except I am paying ~$16/month (including taxes). Nice!!!
