Ordered Vonage in August '08. Fairly easy to Order, and receive device. Sound Quality was poor from beginning. There was always static or echoes, and dropped calls. Rarely could I hear the person I was calling and have them also be able to hear me. I Called Customer service Tech Support, it was always the modem, the router, the cable service, the surge protector, or Vonage Device needed room to breathe. I changed modems 3 times, routers 2 times and increased cable from 1.5mgs to 6.0mgs. They always tell you to reboot, but when you disconnect from electric it won't come back for hours. Recently the hours turned into days. After three weekends of no service and being on my cell phone with them for hours I called and cancelled. I was charged $114 for early cancellation of a contract for a service they never delivered on. My checking account was charged the $114 before they disconnected the service. They would not give me a refund for the time the service was not operational. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau any one else that would like to the company is listed as Vonage America. You will need your account number and the date when you purchased the service, these can be found on your Vonage account page. To anyone thinking of trying Vonage DON'T, Its a NIGHTMARE and getting rid of it as difficult as using it. In addition to the bad quality the price $24.99 is false after they tack the on the add ons (911, taxes, this and that) it's $34. A terrible company to deal with after the purchase.

I had this service before and it was bad (in 05/06) voices cutting in and out, dropped calls, lots of static, etc. I had to cancel service. They had called me in Mar 2008 and told me that their service got much better with the new technology and offered me a free month plus only pay $9.99 for a $79.99 modem. The service was still bad and I had the highest speed connection through Comcast. I complained month after month and they said it would be straightened out and never was. Finally in Jan 2009 I got disgusted with paying for service that only worked half of the time, they never even offered any type of credit every time I would call about trouble. Then when I discontinued service they kept me on the phone for an extended period and actually charged my credit card (that I had on record for monthly payments) for a disconnect fee and a rebate recovery fee ($114.20) without my authorization, I never even had heard of such a charge. I have disputed it with my credit card company. If no one believes me they can do a search on unauthorized Vonage charges on the internet and it will reveal other persons having the same problem across the US. I could not believe they kept me on the phone (I had to use a cell phone because they could not hear me on a phone that had service through Vonage) long enough to put through these charges against my credit card, that truly explains what kind of company this is. Do not trust them, plus the Customer Service Representative was very rude concerning this matter.

Do not trust their customer service. I had been having voice quality problems and tried to resolve via customer service. I was told that if the problems were not resolved then i could return the device and no fees. Well, as the problems continued, then I was told that it would be 49.99 as part of the cancellation.

I have had trouble with this service before and had quit, they offered me service again last year with one month free and a modem for 9.99 I had the same trouble as I did when I had this service years ago. I kept on calling their tech support line because of the trouble I was having, voices cutting out and mumbled on both ends of connection, voices cutting in and out, fax number (separate) not working properly, would not send faxes on various occasions. I got totally disgusted and called to discontinue service and while I was on the phone with their representative (had to call via a cell phone) they charged my credit card I had on file that I would make payments with on a monthly basis for a disconnect fee of $39.99 and a Recovery Fee of $70.00 plus taxes. They would not refund this charge even though I had ongoing problems that were annotated and I never got any credit for the monthly charges for the unsatisfactory service. If you don't believe me you can do a search online for the problems I had and the fees for discontinuing service. Not a good company to deal with, don't believe all the commercials you see.

a story about Vonage: Vonage customer = Mr Smith Vonage service provider = Johnny Vonage phone = gasoline Internet service = lawn mower Mr Smith is a very busy man and doesn't have time to mow his lawn. He hears from a friend that Johnny down the street provides a very good lawn service at a reasonable price. Mr Smith talks to Johnny and learns that Johnny will be happy to mow his lawn. He will provide the gas but he needs to use Mr Smith's lawn mower. "No problem" says Mr Smith and hires Johnny to mow his lawn every week for the whole summer. Halfway through June, Mr Smith's lawn mower breaks and he can't get it fixed right away. He tells Johnny about the problem and being an ethical man, Mr Smith pays Johnny for the rest of June. Johnny says, "Oh, that's not good enough. You said you were hiring me for the whole summer. So on top of paying me for the rest of June, you have to pay me for July also." "That's not fair" says Mr. Smith. "It's not like I don't want you to cut the lawn, I just can't afford to get the mower fixed". "Doesn't matter" says Johnny, "I don't care about the mower, I just want the money". Now if you were Mr Smith, how would you feel? Would you ever hire Johnny to mow you lawn again? Would you recommend Johnny to your friends? Well, I am Mr Smith and my mower is broken. Johnny not only wants the money, he has access to my bank account and he's either going to take the extra money, or keep taking his monthly fee even though he's not providing any service at all. I think Johnny is a horrible, selfish little boy and you can bet I'll never do business with him again.

Lots of drop call, raising price even I had contract, told me if I don't like the new price, I can cancel without disconnection fee. But when the IPT just finished porting my number to their service, Vonage automatically cancelled my account and charged me $116.00 to my credit card. They don't even wait for me to call to cancel. I'll dispute the charge. So beware with Vonage if you want to leave them you have to pay lots of money.

Have had Vonage at home since June 2004. Very few problems, most were due to the Internet provider and not Vonage. Customer service is okay but I have not had to call them very often. Features are nice, especially the simultaneous ringing feature which rings up to 5 numbers at the same time. We don't miss calls anymore that way. I'm not really sure why some have had such bad experiences. We've had one Motorola phone adapter the entire time without any major problems at all. 911 service works well as we had to call once. If you are looking for a reliable home phone and want to save money calling long distance, I highly recommend Vonage.

I have learned my lesson and have paid $$$s out of my pocket. I have had Vonage for over 1 yr and the service is awful. Every other month I was calling to get my service re-established because of dropped service and sometimes in the middle of conversations. Then I would have to call their "Expert Technical Support" (reading from a manual) and be on the phone with them from 45 min to over 1 hr. and using my "reliable" cell phone. Ridiculous!! Who has time for this??? By the 3rd incident I knew more than their "expert" support. The set up I believe took me over 1.5 hrs because their "expert" technical support had difficulty because I had a wireless router... Please save yourself the aggravation, frustration and $$$s and stay with your local provider. VoIP maybe a good service but not with Vonage !!

I've had Vonage now for about 4 months without any issues or problems. My biggest complaint is that if the DSL has a hiccup or temp loses signal, the Vonage modem will not automatically reset. You have to unplug the modem and allow it to reset. Sound quality is excellent and I have yet to experience a dropped call. I bought two GE DECT 6.0 cordless phones and they work great with the Vonage features. I was able to keep my Verizon (EarthLink) DSL line, without keeping Verizon phone line and ported my number. This took a few weeks. Overall it has been a good experience so far.

I have had Vonage service for several years. "Way back when" I signed up, the technical service folks had no clue how to set up port forwarding through my firewall. I recall the time to actually speak to someone was hours. Voice quality was good most days, but was useless on other days. With 25 years of networking experience and several telecommunications patents, believe me when I say with authority that the problem was Vonage, not the ISP. I use the service primarily for outbound long distance and an occasional fax. On several occasions I have attempted to sign up for additional service, but after literally hours of holding, dropped calls and unbelievably arrogant and rude customer service, I just gave up. I thought Vonage would improve over time, but their customer service has only degraded to the point of being absolutely useless. I wanted to add an unlimited plan and a virtual number today, but finally reached the conclusion that their customer service is so bad that I would not use Vonage if the service were technically perfect and free. There may be other bad VoIP providers, but there can be none worse. Vonage is a disgrace to the industry.
