don't get vonage for a million reasons. Their customer service is beyond worthless. I got suckered into vonage with an offer of a $240.00 rebate when I bought a computer on 12/23/06. this date is may 17 2007 and they STILL WON"T PAY THE REBATE. Plus you have to reset the vonage modem over and over because the line goes dead a lot. It's beyond bad. With their refusal to pay the rebate aside, the service still sucks really bad. Their service reps don't speak english.. FORGET VONAGE>> they suck really bad.

I've had Vonage for years and the service has gotten worse over time. Lately we have gotten ghosting and garbled calls or calls drop off. The best has been the last two days I have been without a home phone for what Vonage Customer Service has called a proxy server failure. Being in the IT industry I would have hoped that Vonage following best practices would have a failover server to move paying customers to in the event of a failure, or at the least would have moved paying customers to a working proxy server, but instead they feel telling customers repeatedly that the server is back up and they are monitoring it for the past two days while I sit without service is acceptable service. I asked if I could be reimbursed for the time that my service was down and the response I got was "how long has it been down?", my response was how long has that server been down. I almost fainted when I was told "I don't know, but you need to prove how long you were without service for a reimbursement." How do you prove that to the them if they don't tell you how long the machine was down. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no one was there over night (after all it was 4pm CDT). The next day I called in and the CS rep told me the issue was resolved I asked why I did not have service then and was told. Oops I mean the issue is not resolved, but we will call you back once it is. Next day Saturday I asked to cancel my server "Sorry you'll have to call back Monday morning to talk to accounting..." Do not us Vonage they were good at one time, but have become fat and happy, they do not follow best practices and do not care about the customer. I'm currently looking for a good replacement if anyone knows a good one drop me a line.

I have been a Vonage customer for over three years. I have found the service to be excellent and an excellent value. Today as I was searching for an alternate provider in case it becomes necessary to jump ship because of the Verizon lawsuit, I read a huge number of negative reviews of the service provided by Vonage. I find these comments completely at odds with my experience. In addition, when compared to offerings of other suppliers Vonage offers the most flexible and user friendly configuration menu in addition to the lowest prices. There may be lower cost voip providers if all you want is basic connectivity (but I didn't find them) but not if you are looking for a flexible phone system for a small business. For all of those that complain of voice quality, please keep in mind that this is a function of the bandwidth of your internet service connection and how you use it. If it is all used up by email and employees surfing the net there won't be enough left over to provide decent voice quality. If that is the case you may need another connection just to support the voip connections. Or, give the voip connections priority in bandwidth allocation. My experience has been that Vonage does what they do very well, but there are other links in the chain that can cause unacceptable performance.

We have had Vonage since Nov. 2004; instead of improving with age they have done just the opposite. At least once a week, we either cannot make outgoing calls or the person on the other line cannot hear us (but we can hear them!). Customer service often blames the cable company for the issues. We run our business from home and cannot afford to miss calls due to whatever the reason is. We are switching to Sunrocket; even if they drop a few calls-we will still make out regarding the $$$ we spent (savings of $14 per month with the $199 deal). Vonage needs a lot of improvement. I wouldn't recommend their service to anyone.

I ordered Vonage because it was the cheapest thing I could find. Cheap has come at a price. Since I've gotten Vonage, I have called to complain about once a month. The first problem that I had is that it slows down my internet (which it still does by the way). The second problem was that when I called someone, sometimes my phone sounded like I was calling from a cell phone or somethings the person on the other end couldn't hear me at all, so they say hello a million times and I have to yell just trying to get them to hear me. The third problem is that I would dial one phone number and get connected to a different phone number. For example, I tried to call of my friends and got a business. The fourth problem that I have had is my voice mail not being received. I would know that someone had sent me a voice mail but I wouldn't receive it. The worse case was I received 3 voice mails on January 23 and I did not get them until March 3!! This time when I called to complain yet again, I told the guy about all of the problems that I have been having and told him that if they wanted to keep me a customer they better come up with something. The guy didn't know what to say and basically tried to get me off of the phone. I then emailed vonage to complain and I have yet to hear back from them. Once I got sick of waiting for an email in return, I phoned vonage again and complained once again. Finally someone gave me a half months credit for all of the troubles that I have been having. Jokes on them because at the end of April I'm done school and canceling my service.

We have 3 lines with Vonage and every couple months we're unable to receive incoming phone calls. I call there technical support which is located in India and I'm lucky if I can even get through and understand the person on the other end. Once I'm finally able to talk to someone after waiting a minimum of 30 minutes they can't tell me anything. I finally manage to get through to 2nd level tech support which is in the USA and they tell me... Our circuits are down in your area and our engineers are working on the problem. After an hour or four we're finally able to start receiving phone calls again. This happens at LEAST every 2-3 months. I CAN'T STAND THIS COMPANY but we're stuck using them because it takes at least 6 months to transfer a phone number if Vonage will even release it...

I knew that I had a 1 year contract with Vonage so I called them 2 days prior to the end of my contract to tell them I did not wish to renew, they said that they could not do it for me then, that I would have to wait until my 1 year was up. This was Friday, 1-year up was Sunday...Only open Monday thru Friday to deactivate. If I was to do it on Friday I would have a $39.99 deactivation charge, so call back on Monday and we will cancel then and waive the service you will not be using. I called first thing on Monday, 5 Min after they were open, talked with no less than 5 people. Long story short, No refund for just billed month, poorest customer service I have ever experienced. Vonage admitted that there was no way to avoid 13 month charge (Now it is 24 month or $40). Save yourself the headache, AVOID Vonage. Since I have changed to a new provider (SunRocket) I have less echo, and less delay when the landline answers. This could have been caused by many factors that were out of Vonage's control, but I will never put myself through dealing with them again.
