I switched to Vonage and bought the UTstarcom F1000 in October of 2006, it's now February so I've had the phone and service for about 4 months now. The idea of the WiFi phone was brilliant, just connect it to an available access point.. and Wow! you have a phone number. I work a lot from home or on the road so I was trying to find a way to stop using my cell so much. The idea was that I could give out the Vonage number and then using simulring, it would ring on my Vonage line if I was near a hotspot, or it would ring on my cell if I wasn't. And I must say, that works... great. But, if I answer the call on the Wireless phone... the person hears a loud hum, they say that I sound like I'm at the end of the tunnel or they just say "Hello" a dozen time before they finally hear my voice and it sounds like I'm talking under water. I can usually hear them, though the voice quality is about 10% that of my cell phone and the delay is so bad I might as well be talking to China. Then the line just goes dead, sometimes for just a few seconds, sometimes it doesn't come back at all. You can reboot the phone and make another call but it's usually the same. I would say that less than 10% of the calls I've made on this phone were barely acceptable. The rest... I would eventually give up and call the person from a landline or my cell. So, I'm a technical guy, it is what I do for a living... so I started troubleshooting. The router, replaced mine three times with different brands to the highest end routers I could find. I took it to friends houses. Sometimes I would think that I was good... and then the next call I made was unusable. My home network is Comcast with the maximum speed. Tests show me with a 812 kbps upload and 8702 kbps download. So I called customer service, 2 hours and 12 minutes later (53 minutes of that spent on hold.) They gave up and sent me a new phone, it seemed to be much better, almost 50% of the calls were good enough to use. For about a day, then the problem kicked in again and it didn't seem to work at all. Then the ringer just stopped ringing. The settings were all there, it just wouldn't ring. I even spent 1 hour 18 minutes on the line with Vonage and the did a factory reset on my phone to no avail. A new phone is sent, that one dies completely 2 days later, no power, nothing. The next phone is lost in the mail. Vonage tells me that I'm responsible for it and I have to pay outright for a new phone. Filed a police report and a claim with DHL who refunded the money to Vonage (After 3 weeks.) Finally Vonage tells me to send back the defective phone first, on my own dime, and they'll send me a replacement. So I do, and still the problems persist. My log now shows that I have made 27 calls to Vonage customer service, for a total of 10 hours and 41 minutes. That's an average of 23.7 minutes per call. Vonage dropped me while on hold 4 times, and they never called me back. I spoke to 1 person in all of those calls that was remotely helpful.

I'm thinking of going back to ATT-now that's drastic! I use the phone a lot. I work from home so I use it for business. Several times a week, I can be talking to someone and the call is dropped. Recently, every time I do a 3-way call, it's dropped. Sometimes people can hear me but I can't hear them and vice versa or the quality is poor. Call waiting isn't reliable-sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes numbers show up on my caller id when the phone didn't ring. Sometimes the phone is dead. I have to unplug everything and reboot. When I call customer service, they're very nice but I can't understand their accent. I also get different answers for the same question and they seem unable to fix the problems. Basically, I'm happy with Vonage about 70-75% of the time. But because I use my phone for business, I need something much more reliable.

One screw up after the other is the only way to describe Vonage. If you talk to 4 different reps you get 4 different answers! And I'm tired of talking to people I cant understand also! It took almost a month to get my number transferred due to mis-information from rep. I just tried the phone and there's a terrible echo. I only get a few calls a day if that, so I'll try it for a while but as soon as my cable company get theirs up and running I'm leaving Vonage behind in the dust!

ok i'm going on 3 weeks with this and so far so good, one of the girls in another country gave me a phone number that goes direct to a person i'm never on hold, hear a recording or anything, they answer the phone "thank you for calling Vonage how may i help you" and for those of you that are worried about power outages if you look right on the website you can program a number for your vonage to go to when the power is out, they said that your vonage modem sends a signal to the main company every 25 minutes and if they don't get it from your box they forward the number to another line so you never miss a call. The customer service in NJ has been great and they keep track of every time you call and let me tell you every time i call they are nice as can be and always willing to help. I too agree with the others that are making comments about the ones that are complaining about the noise and dropping calls more than likely it's your internet provider and the speed of your connection. My mother is hard of hearing and she said that I sound a lot better with the vonage than the regular company, in fact no one has been able to tell I was on the vonage unless they had caller ID.

HIDDEN FEES EVERYWHERE! I would not recommend automatic bill-pay and I would check your statements with a fine tooth comb. I was pre-occupied with my wedding and three months too late I noticed I was getting charged double for a "second line" that was magically activated on my account. After 4 different tries to get through to someone at cust. service that could help me I was told that I could drop the line (which I never requested) but it would cost a $42 cancellation fee - FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS INCORRECTLY ADDED AND INCORRECTLY COSTING ME ALREADY. They were so kind as to 'waive the fee' and I continued to work on a credit for a line I didn't know existed and didn't use a once. I have been working at this for 21 days and counting, told numerous times that my account was being credited as we spoke and have yet to receive my money back. Even if this particular situation does not happen to you - they are scammers with horrendous customer service and I would never ever recommend them again to anyone.

I have no complaints about this services. I've read through some of the other ratings, and I have not experienced any issues like some people have reported. The website to pay your account and change services on your account is excellent as far as speed, I have never heard any echoing or static during a call, and have never had any issues with placing or receiving a call. My favorite feature is having it ring my cell when I'm not at home (not call forwarding). My only complaint is that I wish I had a corded phone and am having trouble finding one that's not $150.00. Love the service and would recommend it to anyone interested in internet phone service. :-)

This outfit is a waste. The customer service is hideous. They are over priced for the quality of service you receive. What is worse is when you call to disconnect make sure you do it ON THE BILLING DATE, otherwise, they will keep the remaining amount already paid on the account and then charge you a disconnection fee!! I highly recommend NOT using Vonage; they are unreliable as an acceptable telephone service provider and they are crooks. Unfortunately for them they have competition, it will be interesting to see how this ridiculous company does in future years. One thing is for sure, I will never go back or recommend them.

Vonage lies. They say they have good sound quality, but there are echo's and distortions on the line. The transmission is often choppy. You call them, wait 30-60 minutes and talk to someone in India that does not understand English, will not agree that Vonage is wrong and cannot fix the problem. Vonage lies. The say they can port you number but it takes 30 or more days to do so. Vonage lies. Once they get your number ported, the 30 days "free" is up and you had to pay for your old provider until the number finally got ported. If you cancel with your old provider, they tell Vonage the account is closed and you cannot port the number. So you have to pay a fee to get your old account back so they can port the number to Vonage. Vonage LIES. The say they can port your fax number, but they will not do that until your voice number is ported, taking over 60 days. VONAGE lies. They say they can support faxes but may people try to fax you and get a communication error, no matter how new the fax and the proper settings on the fax. VONAGE LIES. If you try to cancel your account after 30 days, they charge you $39.95 for the voice line and the fax line. Then the take forever to release your number for porting to another provider. Then they keep charging you and the only way you can get them to stop is to cancel your credit card. DO YOU LIE LIARS? Then use vonage.

They're bad. Their customer service is bad. Their features are ok. Their web site is slow and doesn't work well. Sound quality varies, and I've had numerous problems with it, and with dropped calls. Customer service is in India which would be fine if the techs were well trained and spoke English well, but they are very poorly trained and are very difficult to understand. They keep adding little fees so the price they quoted isn't what you get charged. Again, customer service is bad. It seems like they're more interested in adding new customers than doing a good job providing a product.

Very happy with service. My number came over in 3 days. Only issue is alarm system will not work with Vonage which does not make sense to me. It will work with Comcast. Why wouldn't it work with Vonage? No one can give me an answer. If it worked I would be ecstatic with everything.
